I shook the water from my hands run my fingers though your hair / we put our towels on the sand the sun was hot your hands were everywhere / aeroplanes fall from the sky like hungry gulls they dive into the sea / memories erased by drugs I lost my voice amongst the flood debris /
Friends and lovers move away in times of war they go overseas like flying fish they spring to mind lets make a pipe for peace /
I read some books and wrote a song but some people asked me to change the verse / about how God and Jesus Christ were with Verwoerd and teaching him how to surf / offending covers torn away / in times of war censorship increase / soldier boy cleans his gun and says this is my plan for peace/ Friends and lovers move away in times of war they go overseas like flying fish they spring to mind lets make a pipe for peace / even angels fall from grace in this wasted land / God I love her so I can’t relax without a drink give me excess give me more and more and more.
I drove the Jag from Cowies Hill while my folks were away in Greece / We had a party on the lawn but the neighbours called the police / my Stalin shirt and Che beret bought in London in the wild West End / were high fashion over there but the Boere weren’t impressed / Friends and lovers move away in times of war they go overseas like flying fish they spring to mind lets make a pipe for peace /
