lyrics

Right foot don’t know what the left foot is doing
head in disagreement with the tail
one step sideways
and three steps back
legs are all tangled
tripping over themselves
the bigger they are
the harder they fall
the bigger they are
the harder they fall
this is the last kick
of a dying horse

Long in the long in the tooth
avoiding the truth
let’s hook this one in the mouth
let’s hook this one in the mouth
down on the ground
turn him over
skin is thick
belly tight
stubborn as a mule
you can take away his water
but you can’t make him and think
it’s like the last kick
of a dying horse

statues a pulled down
flags of all been dyed red
street names are changing
A blow has been dealt to the head
setting the leaders free
setting our leaders free
monuments crumble
the radio still dead
Be careful of the last kick of the dying horse

From a cassette recording of the nominees speech at Verwoerd’s funeral:
There are times when human beings even nations are confronted with the seeming absurdity of life. This is the case, especially when a completely unexpected event with a completely unknown and obscure person is allowed to strike at a great destiny. Interfering with the lives of millions of men and women. The question why?
Why keeps ringing in our ears.
Why Dr. Verwoerd?
Why in our very house of assembly?
why in that dastardly way?
So …
His belief that’s God in his wisdom has created different races and racial differences so that each group could develop to the best of its ability within the confines of it s own cultural division was the transcending conviction of his life.
